Elisabetta Gucci may be the daughter of the late fashion mogul Paolo Gucci and the great-granddaughter of the founder of the company, but the prospective launch of her eponymous hotel in Dubai has reignited a long-running feud between the family and the global fashion house of the same name.

The Armani Hotel is the first from fashion designer Giorgio Armani and will include eight restaurants, an upscale lounge, a spa with thermal suites, a fitness centre and an outdoor swimming pool.

The world's first hotel under the Armani branding has been opened in Dubai and offers 160 luxury rooms and suites. It is located on the first eight floors as well as the 38th and 39th of the Burj Khalifa – currently the world's tallest building.

Emirates Airline has teamed up with Armani Hotel Dubai and The Address Downtown Dubai to offer its First and Business Class passengers flying to or via Dubai, who hold a valid return ticket, complimentary hotel stays. The offer is valid till August 31, 2010.

Housed in Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building, the 160-room luxury hotel is as exclusive as its namesake’s designer duds with added amenities such as the Armani/Privé nightclub and the world’s first in-hotel Armani/Spa.

Even as there were more than 5,000 additional rooms in Dubai in Q1 2010 compared with the same period of 2009, the number of hotel guests staying in those rooms declined by more than 76,000 during the same period, according to government estimates. Quoting figures from Dubai's Tourism & Commerce Marketing (DTCM) Department, Dubai Statistics Centre (DSC) website data showed yesterday that the number of rooms in Dubai went up by 12.3 per cent to 46,022 rooms in Q1 2010 compared with 40,984 rooms in 2009.

After a year of its inaugural, the Burj Khalifa has made its name as one of Dubai's largest tourist attractions and has aided the nearby hotels to increase their business up to 35% over the last two years.
