Dubai: You’ve heard of Dubai’s record breaking Burj Khalifa, the tallest free-standing structure in the world at 828 metres tall.

Well, it appears Dubai is about to shatter the record book’s tallest category once again.

Hard Rock Café says it is building the world’s tallest guitar at 118 feet (approximately 36 metres) high to mark the café’s re-opening at its new location in Dubai Festival City (DFC) this coming October.

The original Hard Rock Café closed in March 2009.

“In keeping with the tradition of Hard Rock Café, the new restaurant will incorporate an iconic electric guitar. This will be the tallest guitar anywhere in the world,” said Phillip Evans, Director of Commercial and Retail Leasing for DFC owners Al Futtaim Group Real Estate.

“It will be near the cruising boulevard so that the guitar can be seen by those travelling on Business Bay Crossing,” Evans told Gulf News.

In a statement, Hard Rock International said, “Not to be content with the sheer magnitude of the [relocated] café’s size, this Hard Rock will also include an iconic 118-foot guitar which is anticipated to be the largest in the world and will be submitted to the Guinness Book of World Records.”

While construction of the new 26,400 square-foot Hard Rock Café is finished, the mother of all guitars is still on the drawing board.

Evans didn’t say whether the new guitar in Dubai would be splashed with neon tubing.
