In celebration of an exciting milestone of the year – New Year’s Eve, Du customers enjoyed contacting family and friends all over the world during New Year’s Eve, to taking full advantage of Du’s mobile network services, which boosted network traffic by 198% during the evening in comparison with other days of the month. In particular, the mobile traffic volume in the Burj Khalifa area, which was busy with visitors who came to witness the fireworks, witnessed a jump of 205%.
“We are proud of this moment since it reflects our efforts and success in consolidating an ultra-efficient cutting-edge mobile network, meaning we can offer our customers reliable communication services even during periods of high volume network traffic, including holidays and special occasions such as Eid Al Fitr, Eid Al Adha and New Year’s Eve. Indeed, despite this tremendous traffic increase, we maintained our high-quality network, mainly owing to the latest technologies deployed, as well as our continuous efforts to obtain perfect network parameter settings and take other steps to cater to such traffic,” commented Hatem Bamatraf, SVP Network Development, Du.
“Indeed we are committed to ensure our customers can enjoy keeping in touch with family and friends during these special times, and in 2011, we will continue to develop our network to meet and exceed our customers’ expectations,” added Bamatraf.
Du has achieved many milestones with regard to network development over the past year. In fact, the UAE joined the league of the select few nations in the world to first launch high speed mobile broadband speeds of up to 42.2 Mbps, the fastest in the country, following Du’s upgrade of its network to next-generation DC-HSPA+ technology. The company has also achieved an impressive 99% overall mobile coverage in populated areas in the UAE, and 98% with the 42.2 Mbps speed, in less than four years of operation.
Du’s ultra high-speed mobile broadband network enables customers to have a superior mobile broadband experience including the fastest internet browsing, music downloads or mobile TV access among many other applications.
