The 75-storey copper-coloured tower under construction in Moscow’s business centre now has a final height of 338.82m following modifications earlier this year to add five floors and more than 50m. The Shard is 310m tall.

Mercury City will not hold the record for long as a far taller building, the Federation Tower, is under construction alongside and will reach 510m. Two buildings in the same complex had previously held the title of Europe’s tallest.

And all are relatively short compared with Dubai’s 828m Burj Khalifa, the 1km Kingdom Tower under construction in Saudi Arabia and Azerbaijan’s planned 1.05km-tall tower. More info
