Mott MacDonald has been appointed by Pearl Dubai FZ LLC, a company owned by a consortium of investors led by the Al Fahim Group of Abu Dhabi, as detailed design engineers for Phase 1 of the £3.86bn ($6bn) luxury Dubai Pearl development in the United Arab Emirates.
Dubai Pearl is centred on four iconic towers of over 70 floors capped by a single three storey roof known as the Sky Palaces.
It is a city within a city, situated on the fringes of the Dubai Media and Technology Free Zone overlooking Palm Jumeirah.
It will provide a home for 9,000 people and a workplace for a further 12,000, comprising nearly 1.86million square metres (20million square feet) of premium offices, apartments, hotels and shopping districts as well as entertainment amenities.
In addition, 56% of the site will be dedicated open space and landscaping to become the first truly walkable environment in the city, with the masterplan designed to encourage community living and energy efficiency, targeting Gold LEED Certification in recognition of its environmental performance.

Mott MacDonald will provide detailed design engineering consultancy services for all mechanical (HVAC), electrical, public health, fire, communications and security systems for the phase 1 development.
Mott MacDonald will also provide the LEED consultancy role coordinating all internal and external consultants towards LEED Gold accreditation.

The development will be delivered over two phases with the initial handover scheduled to start at the end of 2013.
